About Stacey's Classes
Students just getting started in dance (or bellydance) may wish to attend the Introduction series.  During each eight week rotation, we describe and practice the core language, concepts and muscles used specifically to this dance format.  The class has a smaller number of attendee slots available to encourage a personal atmosphere where students can feel comfortable asking questions.  After attending an Introduction dance session, students may repeat the series or move on to the Beginner class.

Each Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced class series has a different focus or "theme."  Beginner class themes include veil, finger cymbals, choreography or dance combos.  Advanced themes vary and could include focus on a subset of isolations such as figure 8's or upper body work, stamina, layering, choreography, combos, etc.  Each class always includes a warm up, muscle isolation breakdown, practice and cool down.  Student performance opportunities are arranged periodically throughout the year.  New students accepted at the beginning of each series.

CLASS DATES:  Tuesdays November 16 - December 14, 2010

Introduction Bellydance Series
(in the small studio at Niaspace)
6:00 - 6:50pm
Learn the basic principles of posture, muscle isolation and timing.  Students start with this foundation and may choose to repeat the series before moving into the Beginner/Intermiate class series.

Beginner / Intermediate Bellydance Series
Theme this series:
  Music Appreciation
7:00 - 8:00pm
For this five week session, we will explore the bellydance music world.  There is only enough time in five weeks to begin to scratch the surface!  Each week will include warm up, drills, and a dance combination to a different musical selection.  We will review and highlight rhythms, time signatures, cultural context, and relevent dance stylizations.  Liked Saidi?  How about a little Khaleegy?  Do you know your Om Kalthoum?

Advanced Bellydance Series
Theme this series:  The Return of the Drum Solo
8:15 - 9:30pm
Isn't it funny how things we try to avoid sometimes come back to haunt us?  We will spend 5 weeks revisiting the drum solo choreography "Solo Salimpour."  Some parts have changed but all in all it is geared to challenge the L2/L3 dancer in the Suhaila format world.  Alternating squares on a chasse pas de bourre combination, anyone?  Now add a ribcage circle.

What to Wear:
Please wear comfortable clothing in which you can stretch and move easily.  Yoga wear or jazz pants and tank top are most appropriate.  (No skirts, please.)  Bare feet, ballet slippers or jazz shoes are acceptable.  Hip scarves are optional.  If you do choose to wear one, please choose one with no beads or coins.  Thanks!

Payment and Attendance Policy:
Students may sign up online or pay at the door via cash or check.  "At the door" registrations are subject to availability.  Classes are non-refundable and non-transferrable.  There are no prorates, refunds, credits or make-ups for missed classes.

How do you want to move through life?

Stacey has been teaching belly dance for over 8 years.  She is Level 4 certified in the Suhaila Salimpour format and Level 2 certified in the Jamila Salimpour format.  All of her classes are based on this technique which starts with a foundation in muscle control, timing and posture and are followed by choreography, performance skills and personal expression.

Whether you are looking for a good work out, want to perform with the Tekatek Dance Ensemble or dance as a soloist, Stacey's classes will improve your dance.
